I liked this book very much. The timeline covered a long period of time. Most books I read showcase a short period of time but a huge increase in emotion. I understand traumaic experiences bring you close fast, but sometimes it's just too fast. This one was comparable to real life. It was very interesting and the growth of the characters was slow but steady and it kept me interested throughout.

Looks like this is the first one in a series. I would classifiy it as YA paranormal. There is an attraction but no love story. It builds so subtley that I didn't even realize it myself till the very end. It was sweet and entirely age appropriate. Unlike some others that are YA. Not that I mind those either, this just happened to be a pleasant surprise.

Akara has no hope, she doesn't even know the meaning of the word. She no longer cares what happens to her as long as it stops being painful. She is a wonderful character. I found her pragmatic and sensible when it came to her difficult past. She wasn't morally perfect either. A fact that I was greatful for.

Rydan is exactly what I would have expected from a teenage boy who hasn't had to really work for anyone save himself. He is the center of attention and enjoys it. He doesn't take anything too seriously in the beginning and has no interest in anything that does not directly effect him. He does surprise me in his care of Akara though. I expected a little more self-centerness from him. It was a nice change that ultimately made me like him more.

Tristan was a surprise. He had a great straightforward manner along with some added comic relief to help with some of the more serious situations throughout the book. He is a fearless fighter and a trustworthy friend.

The storyline is basic and simple. Having no subplot that I could tell except maybe the attraction they didn't realize they were feeling. Even then it's so understated as to be non-existent.

I will be reading the next book. I may even re-read this one again.

This book was full of emotion, action and on the edge of your seat moments! Kelley Lynn's writing is flawless. It dragged me in at the very first sentence! And then there's Rydan. Definitely book boyfriend material. Can't wait for book 2!!!
I really enjoyed reading Fraction of Stone! Both the characters and the story had depth that I haven't found in recent books I've read. I absolutely loved the connection between hope for the world and the relationships we have with each other. Ryden's optimism and patience was endearing, and helped soften Akara's brokenness so it never was overwhelming. The story was well-written, flowed smoothly, and had some great action. I found myself gripping my a little tighter in many scenes, wondering how they were going to get out of their current mess! Overall, Fraction of Stone is a wonderful debut novel and I look forward to reading more books written by Kelley Lynn
This book is one I'll read over and over and over. Kelley Lynn did a wonderful job of creating a completely different world with characters who feel like real people, even when they can do things real people can't. I found myself so absorbed in the story, I'd be reading for what I'll promise myself 20 minutes, but hours have passed. The action mixed with the light romance was a perfect blend for this fantasy book.

And if I could, I'd take Rydan and wrap him up in a little box and ship him to myself as a present. Talk about a sexy man! Yum! )
Akara and Ryden are the only two of a kind, the only two that in the world that can wield magic. However, they're stuck on two sides of a war, each used as a weapon against the other. Ryden is treated like a prince by his people, whereas Akara is abused and kept as a slave. When the war ends and the two sides unite, neither side has use for magic anymore, and the two magical teens are nothing but threat.

Akara and Ryden must join together to escape a nation of people who wish to destroy them. Meanwhile, the world is literally breaking apart, and only Akara and Ryden have the magic needed to save the people who want them dead.

Fraction of Stone is extremely easy to get engrossed in. The pace is lightning-quick, and she flies right into the conflict without hesitation. The structure of the plot is strong - two teens against the world with everything stacked against them, makes for high stakes and a perfect YA story.

You can't help but root for them. Poor Akara has been so mistreated, she doesn't even understand what it means to be touched outside of abuse. You desperately want her to find hope again and safety with Rydan. And even though Rydan had a more privileged past, he is a classic hero. He wants to help save the world, and Akara, because it's the right thing to do. And though he wasn't abused, as the only one of his kind, there is a loneliness about him, and you really want him to find his other in Akara.

All in all, it was a beautiful and epic story that I enjoyed from page one. I look forward to the rest of the saga! Well done, Kelley. )

He was the savior of his people. The girl, Akara was caged, while being drugged and beaten, and taught that her life was worthless. She was the weapon of her people and nothing more. Once the war between the two ends, Akara is offered as a sacrifice to the winning side. Rydan has a choice. He can chose to look away as they kill the only other person like him or he can try to save her and find out why they are different. Once he makes his decision, there is no going back and there's more at stake than he dreamed.

A great fantasy story about the worth of another person and magic that is unheard of! I really enjoyed Rydan and Akara's story and the variation between the two characters due to how they were raised. They really showed the light and darkness of the world in their views. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
